SAMSUNG GALAXY STUDIO BLOCKS FOUNTAINS AT CAESARS PALACE

 

            It’s a shock to see the Samsung Galaxy Studio on the Strip but even more so since it blocks the landmark beautiful fountains in front of Caesars Palace. The display is a temporary structure through the end of January 2018 where guests can experience the newest in Samsung products and an interactive virtual reality experience. With only five locations in the United States, Samsung selected Las Vegas and Caesars Palace for this surprise attraction.

 

 

 

105.7’S OLD SCHOOL PARTY JAM WILL FEATURE ‘80S AND ‘90S ARTISTS

 

            The 105.7’s Old School Party Jam taking place at the Orleans Arena on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. will highlight top hip hop, R&B, pop and soul artists of the ‘80s and ‘90s and their greatest hits. Featured artists will include Morris Day and The Time, Club Nouveau, Money B and Young Hump of Digital Underground, Midnight Star, Jalil & Exstasy of Whodini, Sugar Hill Gang, Dazz Band and JJ Fad. Tickets start at $39.


            Morris Day and The Time, formed in 1981, helped create the Minneapolis sound. The band rose to fame through their work with the late pop legend Prince. Club Nouveau burst into the R&B and pop music scenes in 1986, releasing their debut album “Lie, Love and Pain.” Best known for their top hits “The Humpty Dance” and “Kiss You Back,” Digital Underground has performed their signature funky hip-hop sound since 1987.

 

 

 

DOWNTOWN BREW FESTIVAL SET FOR OCT. 21

 

            Motley Brews’ backyard beer bash, Downtown Brew Festival, is returning to the Clark County Amphitheater for its sixth year on Saturday, Oct. 21 with more than 200 beers from 60 breweries, culinary creations and live music. Tickets start at $35 for general admission, which includes event access from 5 to 9 p.m. Early admission tickets with entry at 4 p.m. and VIP tickets $70.

 

 

 

‘BRUNCH TO BROADWAY’ IS NEW EXPERIENCE AT RED ROCK RESORT

 

            “Brunch to Broadway,” which is a 50-minute journey through the history of Broadway with live renditions of some prevalent and celebrated hits, debuted at Red Rock Resort last month. The show is performed by a six-person, Broadway-caliber cast and live five-piece band at noon and 2 p.m. on alternating Sundays in the Rocks Lounge. Upcoming dates include Oct. 22, and Nov. 5 and 19.

 

            Tickets for the show are $20 and the brunch/show ticket combo, which includes a ticket to the Feast Brunch Buffet, is $32.

 

 

 

HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS BRING BASKETBALL TRICKS TO ORLEANS ARENA

 

 

            The legendary Harlem Globetrotters will perform their incredible ball handling wizardry with rim-rattling dunks, trick shots and comedy at the Orleans Arena on Friday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. After the game, Globetrotter stars will sign autographs and take photos with fans. Tickets start at $24.


            Amazingly, the Harlem Globetrotters have been thrilling fans for more than 90 years. Throughout their history, the team has entertained in more than 120 countries and territories on six continents. New this season, the Harlem Globetrotters debuted basketball’s first four-point line, located 30 feet from the basket and six feet, three inches beyond the top of the NBA’s current three-point line.

            After the horrific tragedy in Las Vegas and in the wake of coping, many shows and events had to decide whether or not to cancel. Many did cancel to allow time for healing and here are a few notes.

 

            Incubus decided to reschedule its five-night limited engagement at The Joint at Hard Rock originally scheduled for Oct. 7, 8, 11, 13 and 14. New dates will be announced soon.

 

            The CAKE concert scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 5 at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan was postponed until Saturday, Feb. 17, 2018.

 

            Opportunity Village’s fundraiser OktOVerfest scheduled for last Saturday was cancelled. For folks who had already purchased a ticket, Opportunity Village will exchange it for a HallOVeen or Magical Forest ticket.

 

            Easterseals Nevada postponed its seventh annual “Cheers to Chocolate” fundraiser slated for Saturday Oct. 7 at The District at Green Valley Ranch.

 

 

 

JOHN CARPENTER HEADLINES THE JOINT WITH ANTHOLOGY TOUR

 

 

            Legendary film director, screenwriter and composer John Carpenter will perform a collection of his classic, newly-recorded movie soundtracks live at The Joint in the Hard Rock with special guest Perturbator on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $25.

 

            Carpenter’s third studio album, “Anthology: Movie Themes 1974-1998,” is a collection of his classic movie themes newly-recorded and set for release on Oct. 20. Anthology is a near-comprehensive survey of Carpenter’s greatest themes from his very first movie, the no-budget science fiction film “Dark Star,” to 1998’s supernatural Western “Vampires.”

 

 

 

CAESARS PALACE HONORS LINE RENAUD WITH STREET SIGN

 

 

            Caesars Palace recently honored legendary French performer and activist Line Renaud with a namesake street sign at the Las Vegas resort. Led by Caesars Palace President Gary Selesner, the street naming ceremony included a proclamation by Clark County Commissioner Steve Sisolak, who also presented Renaud with the Key to the Las Vegas Strip. Line Renaud Road is located near the resort’s Augustus Tower valet entrance, off Flamingo Road.

 

            Renaud boasts a versatile career as a recording artist, performer and actress spanning more than 70 years. Her contributions to the Strip include assisting the founders of Caesars Palace with designing various aspects of the resort’s guest rooms and showroom before it opened in 1966, including the selection of linens, marble, flooring and stage platforms.

 

            In addition to her partnership with Caesars Palace, Renaud starred in “Casino de Paris” at the Dunes in the 1960s. She was also instrumental in the creation of a second Caesars Entertainment resort, Paris Las Vegas, and its Eiffel Tower replica in the late 1990s.

 

 

 

ANDREW DICE CLAY WILL PERFORM THREE SHOWS AT RED ROCK RESORT

 

 

            Controversial comedian and actor Andrew Dice Clay, aka “The Diceman,” will headline three performances in the Rocks Lounge at Red Rock Resort Thursday-Saturday, Nov. 9-11 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $57.50, $77.50 and $87.50.

 

            Clay’s career experienced a resurgence most notably when he starred in Woody Allen’s “Blue Jasmine” with Cate Blanchett and Alec Baldwin and had a recurring role on the final season of “Entourage” and Martin Scorsese’s “Vinyl.” In 2018, Clay’s next big film will be “A Star Is Born.”

 

 

 

THE TEMPTATIONS RETURN TO THE ORLEANS

 

 

            Motown super-group The Temptations with original member Otis Williams will bring their timeless hits and stylish moves to The Orleans Showroom Oct. 28-29 at 8 p.m. Tickets start at $49.95.


            The group signed with Motown Records in 1961 and began releasing chart-topping hits like “The Way You Do the Things You Do,” “Just My Imagination (Running Away With Me)” and their biggest hit, “My Girl.” In their nearly 60-year career, The Temptations have achieved tremendous musical success with 37 top-10 hits, 15 No. 1 singles, and 17 No. 1 albums. In 1989, The Temptations were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for their influential R&B and soul music. The group also won seven Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2013.

 

 

 

FLYING LOTUS IN 3D AND COMMON KINGS VISIT BROOKLYN BOWL

 

 

            Flying Lotus and Common Kings have both included stops at Brooklyn Bowl at The Linq Promenade on their upcoming tours. Flying Lotus will play a special 3D show on Thursday, Oct. 26, and Common Kings will perform on Friday, Nov. 10.

 

            Electronic musician, multi-genre producer, rapper, and emerging filmmaker Steven Ellison goes by Flying Lotus or FlyLo. The musical prodigy’s dream-like creativity allows him to push the musical envelope with one-of-a-kind 3D performances. Flying Lotus is the grand-nephew of late jazz pianist Alice Coltrane and saxophonist John Coltrane. His directorial debut “Kuso” premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2017. Tickets start at $32.

 

            Polynesian born, California-based reggae group Common Kings is a band made up entirely of island natives. The smooth-singing islanders will perform songs from their newest hit album “Lost in Paradise,” released in February this year. Tickets start at $28.

 

 

 

FUTURE SHOWS AND TALENT LINEUP

 

 

            Bob Dylan & His Band are headlining at The Chelsea inside The Cosmopolitan on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. In October 2016 when Dylan performed at The Chelsea it was the day he won the Nobel Prize for Literature. Tickets start at $39. 

 

            Comedian and Emmy nominated-actor Billy Gardell from the CBS hit television series “Mike & Molly” will headline the Grand Events Center at Green Valley Ranch on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $25 to $55.

 

            The remainder of headliners this month at the Golden Nugget for its 52 Fridays Concert Series include: Gary Lewis & The Playboys - Oct. 13; Dennis DeYoung and the Music of Styx - Oct. 20; and Johnny Rivers - Oct. 27.

 

            The Pearl at the Palms will feature rock group Evanescence center stage on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 8 p.m. Ticket range is $45-$95. Pop duo and twin sisters Tegan and Sara will follow on Saturday, Oct. 21. Tickets start at $39.50.

 

            Multi-platinum band Breaking Benjamin’s fall tour includes a stop at House of Blues at Mandalay Bay on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 8 p.m. Breaking Benjamin is currently putting the finishing touches on their yet-to-be-titled sixth studio album. Tickets start at $39.50.

 

            Chanteuse “Melody Sweets” is returning for a fourth time to Cabaret Jazz at The Smith Center with her show “The Sweets’ Spot” and an all-new lineup of glamourous performers, 10-piece band with Lon Bronson, as well as tricks and treats on Oct. 24 at 9:30 p.m.

 

            Celebrating their upcoming studio album “A Moment Apart,” the Seattle-based electronic music duo ODESZA will pump up the Downtown Las Vegas Events Center on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m.

 

            Song stylist Jonathan Karrant will pay tribute to the “First Lady of Song” - Ella Fitzgerald with his show “100 Years Ella” on Friday, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. in the Chrome Showroom at Santa Fe Station. Tickets are $20.

 

            At CasaBlanca in Mesquite, Nev., the showroom is featuring tribute shows on Saturday nights: Albumpalooza presents Beatles “1” by the Fab Oct. 14; Rod Stewart Tribute Oct. 21; and Zeppelin USA on Oct.28.

 

 

 

LOCAL APPEARANCES AND BOOK SIGNINGS

 

 

            Local writer and friend Brian Rouff has just published his third Las Vegas novel “The House Always Wins.” The book features a young reporter, fixer-upper house, corrupt casino owner and ghost of a Sin City racketeer.

 

            Author Rouff will appear at the Jewel Box Theater in the Clark County Library on East Flamingo Road on Tuesday, Oct. 24 from 7-8:30 p.m. and give tips for writing and publishing. A book signing and reception will follow the free presentation.

 

            The Mob Museum will highlight Rouff and another author on Friday, Oct. 30 in conjunction with the Vegas Valley Book Festival. Rouff will give his narrative and book signing from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Both are free for museum members or with the museum’s admission.

 

            Tod Goldberg, author of “Gangster Nation,” which is a follow-up to “Gangsterland,” will present from 3-5 p.m. His book involves an ex-mobster turned rabbi, Mob “laundering” of bodies through a mortuary, and a retired FBI agent bent on avenging the murder of his former partner.

 

 

 

FERRARO’S HOLDS WINE TASTING DINNERS

 

 

            The next Taste & Learn event at Ferraro’s Italian Restaurant & Wine Bar will be held Saturday, Oct. 21 from 4 to 6 p.m. Winemaker Alberto Passeri will be visiting from Montalcino, Italy, and feature two different Brunellos, which will accompany a four-course menu. Cost is $65 inclusive. 

 

            Ferraro’s will present its most exclusive wine tasting and dining event to date on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 6 p.m. highlighting Italy’s most esteemed winemaker, Gaja. The event will feature a tasting of 12 exquisite Gaja wines ranging in price from $200 - $2,000 per bottle, followed by a four-course wine-pairing dinner with wine pairings at 7:30 p.m. The price for the tasting event is $100, for the tasting and dinner $295, and for the dinner only $250.

 

            Venues where Gaja wine tastings and dinners are held must follow extremely strict protocols. Tastings must take place in a private room with classroom-style or U-shaped seating. All wines must be double decanted, poured into crystal stemware in advance of the event and set upon tasting mats to identify each wine and vintage being poured. Slide presentations accompany the tasting and guests are supplied with pens for tasting notes and opaque spit cups.

 

 

 

UPCOMING EVENT NEWS

 

 

            The 16th Annual Las Vegas Book Festival, which is the largest literary event in Nevada, returns to the Historic Fifth Street School downtown on Saturday, Oct. 21. The annual festival will feature best-selling authors, more than 26 panel discussions and activities for all ages.

 

            Reminder, the 24th Annual Age of Chivalry Renaissance Festival will be returning to Sunset Park Oct. 13-15 and opens each day at 10 a.m. This event allows participants to travel back through centuries of time to when knights, fair maidens, minstrels and the Royal Court ruled the world.

 

            The Danny Gans Memorial Champions Run for Life, a competitive 5K run, the fun run/walk and team race, is set for Saturday, Oct. 14 at Town Square to benefit the Nevada Childhood Cancer Foundation (NCCF) and to honor the memory of Las Vegas entertainer Danny Gans. This year’s event continues a “Rock-A-Tutu” theme and will give awards for the best tutu and largest team.

 

            The 2017 Las Vegas Metro Police K-9 Trials with Police K-9 teams from across the country will compete in a variety of areas, including tactical obedience, agility, handler protection and much more, at the Orleans Arena on Sunday, Oct. 15 at 8 a.m. Event is open to the public and admission is free.

 

            In honor of the city’s first professional sports team and new hockey franchise, Beer Park at Paris is hosting “Hat Trick Hockey Nights” with giveaways and merchandise for all of the Vegas home and away games throughout the hockey season. The rooftop bar and grill is introducing a “Knight Flight,” which includes four pours of premium brews for $14.

 

            Model and entrepreneur Amber Rose, in partnership with the Chocolate Lounge at the Fashion Show, will present Chocolate Rose, a weekly event debuting soon featuring a delectable all-male wait staff and DJs on Fridays and Saturdays at 10 p.m.

 

            Booze Yoga will be held at The Lennox Las Vegas apartments at 430 E. Cactus Ave. on Tuesday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. All skill levels are welcome to the poolside vinyasa class with complimentary drinks prior and after the session. Tickets are $20 for non-residents.

            Las Vegas’ new doughnut boss reality television star Brett Raymer of the hit show “Tanked” opened his doughnut and ice cream experience to Henderson. Donut Mania, with another location in Spring Valley and plans to expand to a third location, is home of the doughnut ice cream sandwich.

 

            Grimaldi’s Pizzeria is celebrating  National Pizza Month offering a 16-inch traditional cheese pizza for $10 every Monday in October for dine-in and to-go orders. 

 

            The Bootlegger Bistro is celebrating National Pasta Day on Tuesday, Oct. 17 by offering the Pasta Flight Special with three pasta dishes for $32 in the main dining room from 3 to 11 p.m. A Wine Flight is $10 for a pairing with each dish and a Combined Pasta and Wine Flight is $39.
