THE SAND DOLLAR LOUNGE WILL OPEN AT THE PLAZA

A longtime classic Las Vegas bar and music venue, The Sand Dollar Lounge, will open a second area location inside the Plaza this fall, bringing to downtown an outlet dedicated to late-night live music and entertainment. It’s a good fit with the Plaza celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

In 1976, the Sand Dollar Blues Bar opened its doors, and almost instantly became one of Las Vegas’ relished bars. Some of the greatest blues legends, as well as many other famous musicians, graced its stage for more than 30 years. People like Muddy Waters, B.B. King, and even Mick Jagger would swing into the Sand Dollar when they were in town.

In 2007, the Sand Dollar Blues Bar closed its doors, but it was resurrected in 2009, when The Sand Dollar Lounge opened on Spring Mountain Road honoring the tradition and history of the nostalgic venue. In 2015, the Sand Dollar Lounge was taken over by the current owners Nathan Grates and Anthony Jamison with an eye on bringing back and building on its original luster.

The Sand Dollar Downtown will be in a nearly 5,000-square-foot space adjacent to the Plaza’s casino floor. Plans are to offer its full menu of craft cocktails with pizzas made by Pop Up Pizza at the Plaza. Live music, both local acts and other headliners, will take the stage in the evenings on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The vintage outlet will focus on recreating the classic age of electric blues and Rock ‘n Roll in the Downtown corridor.

OPENING OF ‘IMMERSIVE VAN GOGH’ ON THE STRIP DELAYED

It seems to be Van Gogh mania going on in Las Vegas. Every week there is news from one of the two exhibits in town highlighting the post-Impressionist artist Vincent van Gogh’s works.

Recently “Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience” exhibit at AREA15, which opened in May and was supposed to close around July 4, was extended through July and then again through fall 2021.

Now, the second anticipated “Immersive Van Gogh” art installation, has announced unforeseen construction delays, due particularly to supply chain issues, has forced the delay of the opening a second time and will now open Sept. 15 on the Las Vegas Strip at the all-new Lighthouse Las Vegas located on Level 3 at The Shops at Crystals adjacent to Aria. Tickets range in price from $59.99 to $99.99.

Even though there are unexpected delays, the “Immersive Van Gogh Las Vegas” exhibit will be one of the most ambitious and elaborate in the country as the creative team is utilizing a space that has never been used before for this type of installation. In addition, Las Vegas is one of the few exhibits outside of New York to enlist the talents of David Korins, the award-winning designer of numerous Broadway hits including “Hamilton” and “Dear Evan Hansen.” Korins is sculpting the “Immersive Van Gogh” public spaces and bringing his creative technology to make a series of illuminating, interactive and one-of-a-kind elements offering ways to learn more about Vincent van Gogh, his life, his body of work and to take a deeper more meaningful look at how his work resonates with modern-day audiences.
