November 2019

Thanksgiving was the first American holiday.   It was proclaimed by President George Washington on November 26, 1789. It was to be a day of prayer and public thanksgiving in gratitude for the successful establishment of the new American republic. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday.  It’s a truly American holiday, and it’s all about friends, family, and just being thankful…and of course, there’s the food. Thanksgiving is a major event in this town. A lot of people take advantage of the long weekend and spend extra time in Vegas, and most restaurants have Thanksgiving offerings and specials, which will rival even the finest of home cooked meals. Las Vegas wants your business and has a lot of offer. Many of the Hotels are offering outrageous deals for you to come and stay here.

November in Las Vegas is a wonderful time—good cheer and good weather abounds throughout the city. Holiday shows and e vents are starting to appear all over the city.

I hope that everyone has successfully survived Halloween.  Halloween in Las Vegas is a full contact sport…so now, we can now officially start the Holiday Season!  Most stores have already put Christmas decorations up, and the ads for holiday merchandise have already been airing all over the place. Turn your clocks back at 2:00 am on November 3rd…Daylight savings time is over!

This is a busy time of year in Vegas…there is a lot going on…

Glittering Lights, Las Vegas’ beloved holiday tradition, announces presenting partner, Goettl Air Conditioning. Glittering Lights opens on November 8, 2019, and will be open until January 5, 2020, with no dark days. Glittering Lights will continue its 18-year tradition as southern Nevada's premiere drive-thru light show. In the 60 days that the holiday light park is open, it will run different initiatives to support local charities, such as Speedway Children’s Charities and Goodwill of Southern Nevada, churches and schools.

Opportunity Village…“The Magical Forest” opens November 22nd and runs until December 31st.  This year, the Magical Forest is celebrating its 27th year.  The Enchanted Carousel, the Forest Express Trains, live music, sweet treats, lavishly decorated trees, whimsical displays, millions of lights and visits with Santa Claus provide people of all ages with a winter wonderland each night during the holiday season.  This season hold a truly magical surprise with new exciting attractions and an expanded Magical Forest that Las Vegas has never seen before.  Opportunity Village is a not-for-profit organization that serves people with intellectual disabilities by providing them with vocational training, employment and social recreation services that make their lives more productive and interesting. Once thought by society to be unemployable and unimportant in the community, people with severe disabilities are engaged, active residents who contribute to our society. Through Opportunity Village’s programs and services, hundreds of people with disabilities are learning vocational skills and being placed in jobs throughout the community.  On a side note…Opportunity Village was the official manufacturer of Elvis’ scarves. They made the buttons that welcomed thousands of people to see “Elvis Live at the Hilton.” They also made the ribbons for the “hound dogs” that became popular trinkets of the King’s stay in Las Vegas.
