Everything changes in September and it all starts with the weather…the end of the summer heat brings everyone back to town.  Conventions start coming to Vegas en masse, and with that, headliners swarm the city.  Football is back!  The kids of Clark County have gone back to school.  There is a lot of stuff going on this month.  It’s also time to change the watering schedule for the yard.

 

Soundtracks, with Clint Holmes and Earl Turner, will be closing on September 22 at the Westgate.  It’s a great show, and I hope that you get the opportunity to see it before it leaves.  To fill this void in the fall, the Westgate will start a program of rotating headliners.

 

GRAMMY®, TONY®, and EMMY® Award-winning singer-songwriter, arranger, producer and musician, Barry Manilow announced his hit show MANILOW: LAS VEGAS – The Hits Come Home! has been extended at the historic Westgate International Theater at Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino. MANILOW: LAS VEGAS – The Hits Come Home! made its debut in May 2018 to rave reviews and sold-out audiences. The 85-minute show celebrates Manilow’s greatest hits, which includes an astonishing 50 Top 40 singles including 12 #1s and 27 Top 10 hits.

 After 15 years, a Halloween tradition has come to an end. Since 2003, Fright Dome has been providing scares to the Las Vegas Valley at Circus Circus’ Adventuredome. The team behind Fright Dome announced that the haunted attraction would not be returning to Circus Circus for the 2018 season.

 

America's all-time top-selling rock ‘n’ roll band, Aerosmith, is bringing the heat to the Las Vegas Strip with their headlining residency, AEROSMITH: DEUCES ARE WILD. Comedian, actress, writer and producer Whitney Cummings is returning to Las Vegas for four special headline performances at the world-famous Comedy Cellar at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino. Cummings will perform 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. sets on Monday, Sept. 17 through Tuesday, Sept. 18 and return Monday, Nov. 12 through Tuesday, Nov. 13.

 

54th Annual Pahrump Fall Festival to Launch September 27
Patrons will enjoy bull riding, monster truck races, carnival rides, delicious food and so much more. One of Pahrump’s biggest annual festivals returns to Petrack Park for four days of hometown fun September 2018. The family-friendly event will feature bull riding, monster trucks, motocross, midway games, carnival rides, several food and craft vendors, a car show, live entertainment, contests, and so much more.

 

First Friday Foundation announced that September 7th First Friday’s theme is Renew. This theme encompasses the renewal of all things, new beginnings.

Poster Contest – First Friday held a poster contest with Las Vegas Academy art students in August. With over 55 creative entries, a winner was selected and this month’s event poster was created by an LVA student, Eve Barron. Also, 7 runners up were chosen, and all these students’ work will be featured in a large tent during the September event.  

 

The summer of 1969 brought the world the historical Woodstock Music & Art Fair, and within those three days of peace and music, fans around the world were introduced to the Latin-infused sounds of Santana. I LOVE THE ‘90S - THE VEGAS SHOW has added the iconic voices of En Vogue, known for their high energy performances, to the lineup. With timeless looks that match their stellar artistry, the Platinum-selling trio joins the exciting bill of iconic acts coming to Paris Las Vegas. As previously announced, Salt-N-Pepa, Rob Base and All-4-One will kick off the residency Friday, Oct. 12, and the show will feature a rotating lineup of other crowd favorites including Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath, Kid ’n Play and Dru Hill.  This 90-minute, immersive dance party will feature a live DJ, nostalgic video content, dancers and more, giving audiences the opportunity to rediscover the music that influenced and defined a generation and contributed to making the ‘90s a decade to remember.

 

Postmodern Jukebox (PMJ), the show known for bringing new songs back into the old stream and classic sounds back into the mainstream, will perform for eight evenings at the Terry Fator Theatre in November.

 

Penn & Teller will return to their hit show at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino on Saturday, Aug. 18 following a brief hiatus to allow Teller to recover from back surgery. Teller has since made a full recovery and is excited to return to the long-running residency. In celebration of the magic duo’s upcoming 25th anniversary, Penn & Teller will extend their contract at Rio Las Vegas for an additional three years. The show originally opened at Rio Las Vegas in January 2001.

 

Fremont Street Experience will begin its $32 million renovation of Viva Vision, the world’s largest single video screen located in historic downtown Las Vegas, February 2019. Spanning five city blocks above one of the most vibrant streets in Las Vegas, the upgraded Viva Vision canopy will illuminate the pedestrian mall with 16,433,152 pixels and 5,000 Nits, making it seven-times brighter than the existing canopy with four-times the resolution. In partnership with the City of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Conventions and Visitors Authority, renovations to the iconic, city-owned Viva Vision canopy will be completed for the unveiling on Dec. 31, 2019.

 

Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend, the leading bodybuilding contest for fitness enthusiasts, will return to the Orleans Arena Sept. 13-15. For the 13th consecutive year, the Mr. Olympia contest – an annual bodybuilding competition sanctioned by the International Federation of Bodybuilders Professional League (IFBB Pro League) – will bring top bodybuilders and fitness professionals to the stage at Orleans Arena. Bodybuilding legends such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lee Haney, Ronnie Coleman, and Las Vegas’ own Jay Cutler – have all earned multiple Mr. Olympia titles during their reign.

Mermaid School will be held at the Westgate! Class is in session! Held at the newly-renovated, third-floor Westgate Pool, Mermaid School is taught by renowned mermaid expert Mermaid Farasha, founder of Las Vegas Mermaids. Each 90-minute Mermaid School session will include stretching poolside and instructions on tail safety, tail removal in the water, treading water in tail, breathing instructions and dolphin kick/mermaid undulation. Classes will conclude with a mermaid code of ethics discussion, including mermaid manners and kindness, and a Mermaid Meditation cool down.  Class openings are limited and participants must be between seven and 12 years old, must be a skilled swimmer and must have their parents or legal guardian present.

The Outlaws – September 14 at 8 p.m.

The Outlaws are an American southern rock/country rock band best known for their 1975 hit "There Goes Another Love Song" and extended guitar jam "Green Grass and High Tides" from their 1975 debut album, plus their 1980 cover of the Stan Jones classic "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky". They earned a formidable reputation as an incendiary live act touring with friends The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Marshall Tucker Band and The Charlie Daniels Band as well as The Doobie Brothers, The Who, Eagles and The Rolling Stones.

Gary Puckett and The Union Gap Band – September 21 and 22 at 8 p.m.

Gary Puckett and The Union Gap had six consecutive Gold records and sold more records in 1968 than any other recording artist, including the Beatles. Their first big hit, "Young Girl," topped the charts in both the US and the UK. Other big hits include "Woman Woman," "Lady Willpower," and "Over You." The Association – September 28 at 8 p.m.

The Association was one of the more underrated groups to come out of the mid- to late '60s. The group's smooth harmonies and pop-oriented sound (which occasionally moved into psychedelia and, much more rarely, into a harder, almost garage-punk vein) made them regular occupants of the highest reaches of the pop charts for two years -- their biggest hits, including "Along Comes Mary," "Cherish," "Windy," and "Never My Love," became instant staples of AM play lists.

 

From royal courts to enchanted forests, Clark County Parks and Recreation presents the 25th Annual Age of Chivalry Renaissance Festival as it returns to Sunset Park Oct. 12 – 14, 2018. This three-day event will immerse visitors in the Renaissance era with numerous villages and different guilds, activities, historical reenactments, live performances and an array of authentic period foods and beverages – truly an event that’s fun for the entire family!   The festival presents various shows per day along with historical re-enactments, jousting tournaments, medieval pageantry and more than 100 artisans – including blacksmiths, stained glass designers, jewelers, wood workers, toy makers, perfume blenders, stone carvers and sword, dagger and armor craftsman – to demonstrate and sell their wares.

J. Cole has announced the additional support acts that will join him on his 34-date tour in support of his chart-topping new album KOD, with special guest Young Thug. Jaden Smith and Earthgang will join the tour when it makes a Las Vegas stop at T-Mobile Arena Friday, Sept. 7 at 7:30 p.m.  

 

Comedian and Cash Cab host Ben Bailey is returning to Las Vegas for a special performance at the Grand Events Center inside Green Valley Ranch Resort on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 8 p.m.  Before he got behind the wheel of the Cash Cab, Ben Bailey began his career as a stand-up comedian

 

Legendary disco and funk band KC & The Sunshine Band will return to Las Vegas Saturday, September 15, 2018, alongside special guests the Village People, to help celebrate the Grand Re-opening of the newly-modernized Palace Station.

 

Musical genius Paul Shaffer along with his talented full band, The Shāf-Shifters, will return to the iconic Cleopatra’s Barge at Caesars Palace to perform a limited three-week engagement on select dates in September, October and November 2018. Five-time GRAMMY-nominated country music singer and songwriter, Hunter Hayes, will take the stage for an unprecedented full-length performance at M Pool as part of M Resort Spa Casino’s concert series on Saturday, Sept. 15.

 

The King of Bachata, Romeo Santos, confirmed details for the second leg of his highly popular Golden Tour, which wrapped in April of this year. The Original Wailers and Ozomatli with Chali 2na will perform at Mandalay Bay Beach as part of Mandalay Bay’s Concerts on the Beach 2018 summer lineup sponsored by Coors Light and Pepsi Saturday, Sept. 8 at 9 p.m.

The Smith Center for the Performing Arts is proud to announce that Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson, the Host of Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey, bestselling author, and the Director of the Hayden Planetarium, will be speaking at The Smith Center in Las Vegas on Thursday, Sept. 27. Renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson has guided the Ship of the Imagination to transport viewers to the nucleus of an atom and the farthest reaches of the universe as he explores humanity’s quest for understanding.

Jerry Seinfeld fans can catch the legendary comedian as he returns to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace to perform his critically-acclaimed stand-up comedy on Friday, Sept. 7 and Saturday, Sept. 8.  Entertainment icon Jerry Seinfeld’s comedy career took off after his first appearance on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson in 1981. Eight years later, he teamed up with fellow comedian Larry David to create what was to become the most successful comedy series in the history of television: Seinfeld. Luis Miguel, one of the most successful artists in Latin American history, has announced a return to Las Vegas in celebration of Mexican Independence Day Weekend with two performances at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Thursday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 14. Luis Miguel will return to The Colosseum for an impressive ninth year as part of his successful ¡México Por Siempre! tour, named after his most recent studio album.

 

Legendary rock band YES, featuring Jon Anderson, Trevor Rabin and Rick Wakeman, are celebrating their remarkable career, which has spanned decades, with a new world tour, including a return to Las Vegas.
