 July 2020

Okay, I admit it…I got nothing.  In Las Vegas, positive cases of Covid-19 are going up.  We are stuck in Phase 2 of the reopening, and now masks are required in public.  Everything is being done to slow (and hopefully stop) the spread of the virus.  It is a battle that nationally, we seem to be losing.  We are doing worse now than when we were all self-isolating.  So…as far as entertainment in Vegas…well, it’s still not coming back for a while.  Entertainment is part of the Phase 4 plan…which seems like a long way away.   Broadway in New York is now officially closed until 2021.  Cirque du Soleil has just filed bankruptcy.  Plans are going ahead with the opening of Allegiant Stadium in September, as well as entertainment venues…but really…are they going to be allowed to open?  I honestly hope so, but I have my doubts.  September used to feel like such a long way off, but now it feels as if it is just around the corner.

July is the hottest month of the year in Las Vegas. How hot is it?

It's so hot...

You need a spatula to remove your clothing.
You've been getting hot flashes, and you're a man.

I saw a chicken lay an omelet!

I saw a squirrel picking up nuts with pot holders!

I saw a funeral procession pull thru a Dairy Queen!

Jehovah's Witnesses started telemarketing!

I saw the Devil in Wal-Mart buying an air conditioner!

You can wash and dry your clothes at the same time!

I saw two trees fighting over a dog!

I saw a cop chasing a thief, and they were both walking!

Cows give powdered milk!

My thermometer goes up to "Are you kidding me?"

I bought a loaf of bread and before I got home it was toast!

I got condensation on my butt from the water in the toilet bowl!

It’s when the beer gut and big butt don't keep you from wearing shorts.
You’ll wish you had gotten the cloth seats instead of leather.

It’s hot out there!  Stay inside!  Stay hydrated!  Use sunscreen!    The thing about living in the desert is...during the summer, it gets hot. There are some essentials that you will need in order to cope with the heat in the desert... sunscreen! Water—stay hydrated, (and try putting fruit in your water (oranges, raspberries, etc) to help with electrolytes,) and be sure to use lotion, and limit your time in the sun. Did you know that if you leave your cell phone in the direct sun for even a short period of time, it will overheat and not work?

July is the national month for a lot of things...Air-Conditioning Appreciation Days, Bereaved Parents Month, Bioterrorism/Disaster Education and Awareness Month, Blueberries Month, Cell Phone Courtesy Month, Family Reunion Month, Hemochromatosis Screening Awareness Month, Herbal/Prescription Awareness Month, International Blondie and Deborah Harry Month, International Group B Strep Awareness Month, Lasagna Awareness Month, Baked Bean Month, Child-Centered Divorce Month, Culinary Arts Month, Doghouse Repairs Month, Grilling Month, Horseradish Month, Hot Dog Month, Ice Cream Month, Make a Difference to Children Month, Pickle Month, Picnic Month, Recreation and Parks Month, Share A Sunset With Your Lover Month, Wheelchair Beautification Month, Sandwich Generation Month, Smart Irrigation Month, Social Wellness Month, Tour de France Month, and Women's Motorcycle Month

We will have fireworks on the Fourth of July. (Of course, we’ve been seeing and hearing fireworks every night for a month.) There are events planned all over the city, and it will be almost impossible to miss. I would suggest seeking high ground...and watching the multiple displays that go out across the city.

The purchase of the "safe and sane" fireworks are legal in Clark County, the local fire departments are hoping that few indulge themselves. After having a long bout of hot weather, the fire alerts are on high to extreme---there is a lot of fuel out there. Wildfires are the plague the southwest and no one wants the situation to be worsened by additional fires caused by fireworks. "Unsafe and Insane" fireworks are available outside of the county, and are supposed to be illegal in Clark County, but they are seen going off all over the city. The police are saying that they’re going to crack down this year (again.)  The Fourth is the only holiday that makes me nervous...there are just too many accidents. Do everyone and yourself a favor---watch one of the planned displays.

When we have shows again, be sure to log onto the Las Vegas Online Entertainment Guide: lvol.com.

Igoshows.com is, of course, the place to read the reviews of all of the shows that are in town so that you can be better informed as to what you should expect from a certain production. The reviews are updated as needed to give you the knowledge you need to spend your entertainment dollars better.
