Callback News – Ken’s Korner

March 2015

Red Rock Canyon – If you haven’t been out to Red Rock lately for a nice afternoon hike, then I suggest you go revisit the beauty which is only 25 minutes West of the Strip.  They completed the construction of a new Visitor’s Information and Educational Center which also houses Clark County’s most famous tortoise – Mojave Max in his new habitat.

Farewell Riviera – Make sure to stop by the Riviera and say goodbye to another Las Vegas landmark.  The property will close at noon on May 4.  The saddest part for all of us in the entertainment business is the loss of five more showrooms from the Strip, which were inside the property.  This is just another sign that the ‘Entertainment Capital of the World’ is losing its ground in entertainment.  This property will be imploded to make way for expansion of the Convention Center. Other properties, including the remodeled SLS, have replaced their showrooms were live respectable entertainment used to entertain audiences, with over-priced nightclubs where drunken messes are trying to act like their favorite slutty reality stars.

Downtown Grand – The Downtown Grand Resort is the hottest new Thursday night location for comedy.  Paul Scally has brought his humor direct from England and is hosting the weekly comedy club.  Paul has a great rotation of comedians from all over the world stopping in, including our own comedy headlining queen of the Strip – Kathleen Dunbar!

Hello Westgate – I feel as if I have spent most of this past month at the new Westgate Resort (formerly LVH, formerly Las Vegas Hilton).  The property is getting a complete facelift; each room is being remodeled, updated spa and pool area with the new Suzanne Sommers all-organic restaurant based on recipes from her popular cookbooks.  Also, in partnership with the Elvis Presley Foundation, a new 30,000 square foot Elvis Museum will be opening within the property. All this, along with new restaurants and many more exciting things will be coming in the near future.  Thank you to the staff for the complimentary night in a remodeled Signature Suite!

Sexxy – The Westgate is also the home to the hottest and sexiest new show in town!  My friend Jennifer Romas has assembled a cast of the prettiest and most talented ladies in Las Vegas for this topless ‘burlesque-ish’ review.  The show runs Thursday through Sundays at 10:30pm.

“You are going to need a few drinks during this show to keep your temperature down, because what they do on stage will have you burning up!!”

Las Vegas and The Westgate Welcomes Suzanne Sommers – The Westgate will be home to Suzanne Sommers’ new show.  The show will open May 23 and run five nights per week, dark Sunday and Monday.  Her goal is to bring back some of the old-style Vegas entertainment with song, dance and banter with the audience.  She is currently on ABC’s Dancing With the Stars which will help boost her back into live stage performances which she has been away from for a while.  I had a chance to meet with her and she is looking forward to re-launching her stage career back here in Las Vegas. She looked amazing and was so pleasant with our nice chat. I am looking forward to seeing the show once it opens later in May.
