What is CALLBACK????

In 1989 Las Vegas director, choreographer Minnie Madden and former Hollywood scribe Mark Tan sat at a typewriter and pounded out the first eight-page issue of a new entertainment publication. It was, almost jokingly, christened “Dirt Alert,” using the show business slang and backstage vernacular for the latest gossip, unconfirmed rumors and updates on new productions.

The new publication, small as it was, was designed to help all performers –dancers, singers, actors, variety artists, acrobats, skaters, etc., etc., (plus all technical people) find out where the current and upcoming entertainment jobs were.

For a long time, producers in and out of Las Vegas, attempted to find performers for their various and far flung shows by placing notices on bulletin boards at dance and acting studios, backstage at Strip production shows or, occasionally, through entertainment pals.

The new “Dirt Alert” was going to change all that by providing producers, directors, casting agents, choreographers, managers, photographers, other performers, entertainment directors, hotel executives, convention agencies, and so many others, a direct and instant contact and connection to the variety of working and non-working performers in Las Vegas and all over the world.

By listing their current and projected casting needs, producers could reach the entire entertainment community with one single ad. The performers would know, immediately, who was hiring, and most importantly, when and where the audition would be held. It was, until “Dirt Alert” came along a void that needed filling.

Minnie’s and Mark’s mandate for “Dirt Alert” was simple and clear: TO HELP SHOW PEOPLE GET JOBS.

As the months progressed, “Dirt Alert” grew rapidly. The talk about this unique and interesting new publication, geared to, for, and about show people, found immediate acceptance.

In the ensuing years the scope, presence and reputation of the little paper with the fanciful name flourished and broadened until “Dirt Alert” became a publication whose readers, advertisers, and contributors, reflected some of the major forces in the world of live entertainment. Representative of its continuously expanding profile and well-earned professional credibility was the name change, in 1999 from “Dirt Alert” to CallBack.

Today CallBack continues to be an internationally recognized and respected
source of hundreds of opportunities and services for 'show people' world-wide.

During the past year, CallBack's focus and appeal has greatly expanded, due to their website (
www.callbacknews.com), and the addition of contributing writers, who provide 'industry' information, and profiles from almost every area of live entertainment. Actual working professional performers now regularly cover disciplines such as Dance, Film, Comedy, Music, Figure Skating, Theater, and Magic.
